STALLION MOTORS RAISES THE STAKES BY PUSHING THE NEW BRAND DIRECTION FOR HYUNDAI WITH THE INTRODUCTION OFTHE 2013 HYUNDAI MODELS INTO THE NIGERIAN MARKET, WRITES OLAOLU OLUSINA
Leading automobile company and major distributor of Hyundai range of vehicles in Nigeria, Stallion Motors, is giving meaning to the new brand direction of the Korean auto giant, Hyundai Motors, as the company, Wednesday in Lagos, unveiled four new models of Hyundai vehicles at a brief ceremony with journalists in Lagos.
Apparently consolidating its share of the Nigerian auto market following its 30 percent sales increase in 2012 as against the previous year, Stallion Motors is moving ahead byproviding a solid platform in the country for Hyundai’s entry into the exclusive and prestige class.
With the top-of-the-line 3.8 litre engine Hyundai Genesis which comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission; the 1.6 litreHyundai Veloster, a four-door sporty hatchback; the 250 hp 3.0-litreHyundai Azera, a mid-to-up-scale sedan; and the Santa Fe, which comes in two variants of 2.4 and 3.3 litreengines for the Nigerian market, the new Hyundai models, featuring sophisticated and luxury qualities, surely give meaning to ‘Live Brilliant,’ the new brand direction of Hyundai Motors.
Speaking at the occasion, the Director, Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motors Nigeria , Mr. JatinNadkarni, said the four new models, which were introduced late in 2012 are all doing fine. “The four exciting models have already taken off. They are different from the models that were existing before and were designed to attract those who love the brilliant life in line with Hyundai’s new brand direction,” he said.
According to Nadkarni, “With the Hyundai Genesis,which is the top-of-the line, Hyundai is moving into the exclusive and prestige class as it comes in two variants of 3.8-litre engine which is currently available in Nigeria and the 5-litre engine that is not yet available in the local market.”
In his presentation at the occasion, The Manager, Hyundai Motors, AjoseAdeogun, Victoria Island, Lagos branch, Mr. John Bucknor, described the Veloster as “a ferociously fast car targeting the younger generation,” as he disclosed that “the four-door hatchback has taken off very well,” adding “We have a fantastic reception for the car.”
The Hyundai Veloster looks like a regular three-door but when turned 180 degrees through, it looks like a four-door – thanks to the perfectly normal-looking rear door. The redesigned Santa Fe SUV adopts the automaker’s ‘fluidic sculpture’ designincorporating a third row of seats that increases the passenger count to seven, thus effectively replacing the outgoing Hyundai Veracruz.
Although the new Santa Fe comes in three variants of 2.4-litre four cylinders, a turbocharged 2.4- litre and 3.3-litre V6, only the 2.4-litre and 3.3-litre variants will be available in the local market.
The 2013 Santa Fe, according to Nardkani, is targeted at the family because of its ample leg room and passengers’ space, especially in the first two rows that conveniently accommodate taller adults.Drivers hungry for details are also expected to like Santa Fe’s admirable interior materialsas well as intuitive controls and extensive number of standard and optional features of the new SUV.
